Meet Dr. Khalil

Dr. Khalil’s path to becoming a leading Board Certified Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist began in the classroom more than 20 years ago when he was Mr. Khalil teaching 8th grade in Ottawa, Canada. While teaching, Dr. Khalil continued his education at University of Ottawa’s program for Special Education focusing on the needs of Learning Disabled Students.

His love of working with special needs schoolchildren opened his eyes to the very real problems that parents, teachers, and children face. Within the context of the learning environment and with his expertise in the classroom, Dr. Khalil decided that he could better help children’s lives in a different capacity, and thus began his medical career.

Dr. Khalil earned his MD degree from Meharry Medical College, in Nashville, Tennessee in 2001. After medical school, Dr. Khalil moved to Westchester County to complete four years of Psychiatry Residency at New York Medical College and became a Adult Board Certified Psychiatrist. Dr. Khalil is especially interested in Neuropsychiatry (the neurological mechanisims of psychiatric conditions). To this end, Dr. Khalil attended Georgetown University and completed the Preliminary Year of Internal Medicine prior to attending Georgetown’s Neurology residency program. Subsequently Dr. Khalil completed fellowships in Psychosomatic Medicine and in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at New York Medical College. He is now a Board Certified Psychiatrist and a Board Certified Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist.

Dr. Khalil resides in Redding CT with his wife Diane and their children and their therapy dog, Dottie and practices medicine in both Connecticut and New York. Dr. Khalil is a Diplomate of the American Academy of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN), with specializations in both ABPN Board Certified in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and ABPN Board Certified in Adult Psychiatry.
